10 Things Ruining Video Games - Auto Aim

There is a place and time for auto targeting such as Helicopters, launchers, nukes and Metal Gear Solid end-bosses, these things are entitled to fire bullets and missiles that could easily shoot an apple off your head from 2 miles away. But how is it that each and every thug you control in Grand Theft Auto game, or every protagonist in Assassin’s Creed game can easily put a bullet in a target’s body at a simple press of a button?

GTA is the biggest culprit here, as shooting is a basic mechanic of this game. While hiding in cover and line up your targets only to blast them away without even aiming is a crime against gaming. Where is the challenge and skill in that? And why we are playing GTA V when its gameplay requires none of the above things.

While auto targeting can usually be toggled both in multiplayer and single player modes, you’d be at great disadvantage if you turn it off for online multiplayer modes in games such as Far Cry 4, GTA Online and Battlefield; all these games rely on various form of assisted and auto aim. Auto-aim and Auto-targeting should be removed from online multiplayer modes altogether, encouraging more skill based and challenged experience rather than whoever draws his gun first wins.

The Last of us, Gears of War and Max Payne 3 prove that console shooters can be great without any auto targeting or aiming, so let’s just try to get rid of this damn thing altogether.
